Bernard Leach
Early Jar with Firing Cracks, c late 1920sWith clear incised decoration and strip of black glaze to collar. Firing cracks to body.
It is well documented that Leach had problems with his early firing and this is thought to be an example from that period. Particularly accomplished decoration on this work. Note the foot as you can see that Leach has turned the foot with a metal tool. Very early output by Leach has these turned feet. This is also recognisable in KPB's work.Provenance: No notable provenance however it comes from a small collection of pots in the West Country and is a very early piece by Leach, bearing his early LB script mark.17 x 15 cm
